Lunar New Year Lantern Workshop with Margaret Jarrett-Eshia

  • Youth Art Exchange 5137 Mission Street San Francisco, CA, 94112 United States (map)

Happy Lunar New Year! It's the year of the Ox!

We are going to create fabulous Lunar New Year Lanterns. Part of the fun of this project is to treasure hunt your supplies from around your house and recycling bin. You'll need a glass or plastic container. Look for any kind of colorful paper, like junk mail, giftwrap, magazines, envelopes, clean food wrappers, cereal boxes and napkins. Traditional lunar new year colors are red, yellow, gold, black and white with other colors sprinkled in. The project is open to your imagination!

Margaret Jarrett holds a B.F.A. in Glassblowing and a B.A. in Art History from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She has worked in Blown Glass, Metal and Collage for many years. She moved to San Francisco and worked at the Asian Art Museum. She also worked as a designer at Ceramic Tile Design. While raising children, who attended SFUSD's Jefferson Elementary, she worked as the Arts Coordinator of ARTWORKS, an arts enrichment program. Margaret has led many classroom and community-based art installations. Margaret loves to combine upcycling and creativity in her projects.

This workshop is open to all ages and is presented by Youth Art Exchange with support from the California Arts Council.
