ART(S)MASH: Youth Artist Conference

ART(S)MASH is Youth Art Exchange’s first ever Youth Artist Conference. We hope this event will give students the inspiration and tools to see that they can pursue careers in the arts through many different pathways. The event will include a Mentor/Networking circle, Artist Panel and Live Performances and Activities

The way it works is similar to speed dating. Art professionals will spend about 10 minutes talking to youth in small groups and answering their questions. After a few rounds, if the professionals are impressed with one or two students, we will help pair you together for further mentorship opportunities.

This summer, YAX interns engaged with the question, “As artists, how do we contribute to a thriving community?” Our artist panel is a chance for young artists to ask local artists about how they came to work in the arts professionally and discuss community engagement.

The afternoon will culminate in a live performance by the YAZ Traditional Percussion Interns, who have been studying a range of traditional Latin percussion styles from Cuban to Brazilian with master percussionists. Throughout the event there will be live-printing, button-making and free giveaways.
