We’re busy preparing for We Have A Voice: The 6th Annual San Francisco Youth Arts Summit, featuring visual, technical, and performing arts from youth artists and organizations around the Bay Area. In the lead-up to the Summit, we’ll be showcasing the work of YAX youth around San Franciso, looking for submissions for The Summit’s Friday night youth film festival, hosting a CPR/First Aid certification course, thinking about the election, and more.

The YAX Fashion Design class has pulled together their personal market research and interviews with teenagers from all over the city to discover the true needs of a San Francisco high school student- a minimal backpack that won’t hit people on Muni but it can also carry everything a creative kid needs. This design is a culmination of all of our ten students working collaboratively to create a backpack to end all backpacks. They recently visited BetaBrand and were invited to pitch a design to BetaBrand’s Think Tank. You’ll be the first to know if and when their design goes into the next phase of development!
YAX’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Lex Non Scripta, was recently awarded a fellowship with the YBCA Fellows program at Yerba Buena Center For The Arts. The YBCA Fellow program brings together creative citizens from across the Bay Area to engage in a yearlong process of inquiry, dialogue, and project generation.
Lex has also released a limited edition print to raise funds to support the Oceti Sakowin Camp and the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in their struggle to protect their waterways and land. For more information and to purchase a print, visit this link.
