This June, 13 printmaking interns gathered for an intensive 3-week course at Mission Grafica to design posters on their favorite books. The interns discussed their needs for reading books as well as how books have provoked their imaginations and creativity. The interns’ collective concerns were how the technological phenomenon is emerging and impacting not only their own lifestyles but the society.
Through many conversations on insightful excerpts and unearthing the valuable messages of the book, the interns translated their visions through the medium of screenprinting, allowing their ideas to appear on a two-dimensional surface. The explorations through the print medium allowed them to contemplate on the formal elements of the work such as color, shape, composition, texture, form and etc. The interns spent a lot of time carefully depicting the imagery to bring out the emotions and lucid narrative of the book that also delivered their perception of the book.
