architecture-01

Do you want to make an impact in your city? Design and build a Living Innovation Zone for the Asian Art Museum and San Francisco Public Library!

In this internship you will get paid to learn fundamental design and building skills and use them to create a Living Innovation Zone (LIZ), a small architectural project that explores new ways to occupy public space: encouraging people to linger and play, facilitating interaction, and improving our city.

Our LIZ will provide a public art gallery and play space for kids who are visiting the Asian Art Museum and the Public Library. During this program, you will work with artist, architects, city planners and community members to develop and refine the LIZ design, learning how to design like an architect in the process. Once our design is complete, you will learn how to use professional carpentry tools to build it and install it on Fulton Street in front of City Hall.

Applications are due May 16, with interviews on Thursday, May 19. Interns are awarded a $425 stipend upon completion. Apply online here!

digitalphotovideo-01

What kind of photographs do we make from an artistic perspective? When we are not shooting for an assignment, or a job, (or for our Instagram profile!), we can fully tap into our creative potential. This is an intensive course introducing the basics of digital photography and video using mobile devices as well as dedicated still/video cameras. Interns will work independently and together to produce digital photographs, 2D art and videos. For their final project, each student will revisit one medium of their choosing and complete a more advanced assignment.

Applications are due May 16, and selected applicants will be interviewed on Wednesday, May 18. Interns are awarded a $350 stipend upon completion. Apply online here!

printmaking-01

Our printmaking engages young artists in learning how to create and print their own designs using multiple printmaking techniques including screenprinting and relief printing. In partnership with the Mission Cultural Center’s Mission Grafica, our young printmakers work in a professional print shop. Our young printmakers have collaborated with youth at PODER to create poster campaigns for public land use and a new community-based urban farm. They have exhibited and sold their work at SOMArts, Asterisk Gallery, the Children’s Creativity Museum, and lots of community events.

traditionalpercussion-01

When you think of your favorite music or song, you probably think first of the rhythm, the heartbeat that carries through the music. Most often this pulse is driven by the drumbeat, the percussion in the music. Music moves us all, if you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work as a professional percussionist, you should consider applying to this internship. As a percussion intern, you will gain experience in identifying and understanding different musical genres, their origins and cultural significance (Cuban, Brazilian, American Jazz, Pop Music and more). In this internship, you will get a chance to learn from professional musicians from SFJAZZ. You will learn what it takes to be a professional musician, for example to work as a percussionist/accompanist in different settings, such as for a professional dance class or with other musicians for musical performances and community presentations or demonstrations. You will also learn general care and maintenance of percussion equipment and gain knowledge in how to teach basic percussion.

Applications are due May 16, and selected applicants will be interviewed on Wednesday, May 18.Interns are awarded a $350 stipend upon completion. Apply online here!
