Youth Art Exchange has spent the first week of 2016 mapping out a calendar that’s overflowing with opportunities for both youth and adults to be inspired, get creative, and join us as we celebrate and present a wide array of arts programming.
We hope your New Year is brimming with creative wonder, and, of course, we’d love to see you at Youth Art Exchange and at YAX-sponsored events around the Bay Area!
In just a few weeks, we’re launching our first program in the East Bay–YAX architecture students will be designing and building Emeryville’s first parklet in collaboration with Farley’s Coffee.
In this condensed session, students will learn about architecture, gain skills in designing and building, earn $100 stipend, and be a part of creating a new streetscape in the East Bay. Class starts on Saturday, January 23, and we have a few spaces left – find out more and enroll here!
We are thrilled and honored to offer free arts classes to San Francisco public high students. Our spring session starts on February 9th, and we’re currently accepting applications for the following programs:
- Black + White Film Photography Level 1
- Digital Beatmaking in collaboration with SFJAZZ
- Fashion Design
Advanced Photography and Introduction to Architecture are currently full and require instructor’s approval.
To enroll, stop by our office (29 Howth St) or fill out an application online.
Join us as we continue to celebrate winter lights in the Excelsior with an Illuminated Arts Workshop, January 14, 4–6pm.
Mason jars, cereal boxes, and other discarded items will be transformed into glowing works of art in this workshop. Participants will learn how to express the essence of a significant place or personal narrative through light, shadow, color, and shape. They will then create their own hanging lanterns and tabletop sculptures. This workshop is free and open to everyone ages 5 and up. Space is limited! RSVP and learn more here.
Once again, we’ll take over the street for our annual BLOCK PARTY this spring! Expect carnival games, food and drink, youth performances, DJs, and more TBD. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 12, and stay tuned for more information.
